I’ve walked about 65 miles since I left the comfortable hotel room in Los Arcos three mornings ago. The weather has been unseasonably cold, with reports of snow in some of the more mountainous areas. It seemed like a good idea to use the weather to put in some longer days that I wouldn’t enjoy in the hot sun.
Over the three days, I left the Navarra region where I first started in Spain, passed through La Rioja, and am now walking in Castilla y León. As I’ve moved along, the scenery has gone from fields of grain to vineyards and back to grain again.
The terrain has been relatively unchallenging since leaving the Pyrenees, other than the distances I’ve chosen. There are lots of flat stretches that are usually graveled or even paved.
Today the clouds opened up, so after two very long days, I decided to call it a day around 1 pm. My bag stayed completely dry, but I can’t say the same about what I was wearing.
