After leaving Belorado this morning, the trail started quickly gaining some altitude, and it worked its way into the first real forest I’ve seen since France. The cool, cloudy weather with light rain continued into today, so as I climbed the steep trails, I had to chose between soaking myself with warm sweat or cold rain. I opted for the former.
I reached a village called San Juan de Ortega. I wanted to walk a little further, but I called ahead and had trouble finding a bed in the next two villages. The parochial albergue in this village is relatively large and hadn’t filled up yet, so I grabbed a bed rather than taking a chance later. The place is a bit grubby, but it’ll do for a night.
While I was typing this, a woman walked in with whom I’d crossed paths several times over the past week. I walked a relatively short stage today, while she walked a relatively long stage and caught up to me. When people say they’ll see you down the Camino, it’s surprising how often they actually do.
