At a dinner party last weekend, one of my friends asked about my blog — specifically why I hadn’t posted anything for so long.
I admit, it’s flattering to have my absence noted. Moreover, if he was wondering, perhaps others were too.
The short answer is that I’ve been diligently working on Revix, a new blogging platform organized around places as much as dates. I first mentioned the project in a post back in March. Even with advances in AI-assisted software development, it’s still a time-consuming process. Every hour I spend writing blog software is an hour I don’t spend writing blog posts.
However, as part of building and testing it, I’ve created some posts. Most are quite short, consisting of a sentence or two or maybe some photos, but a few of the checkins are a bit more substantial:
The new software distinguishes between a checkin, which is associated with one place at a specific date and time, and a post, which may be associated with more than one place — or none at all — and isn’t necessarily tied to a specific date and time. We’ll see whether it turns out to be a distinction without a genuine difference.
When I introduced the Klaxon software over three years ago, the biggest complaint from friends was that they couldn’t comment on or react to posts as they could with the WordPress software I’d used previously. Revix allows comments and likes, but you have to sign in.
