A few days after starting this stage of my Camino pilgrimage in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, my wife wrote me a message that, at the rate I was walking, I was going to be back in Montpellier before she arrived there.
At the time, it seemed quite unlikely. I started this stage expecting it to take 30-33 days to walk to Santiago de Compostela. After about a ten days, it was clear that it was going to be more like 28-30 days. A week later, I cut the estimate to 26-28 days.
So it’s a little surprising that tomorrow, short of some unfortunate mishap, I’ll be walking into Santiago de Compostela tomorrow in the morning of day 25. And after a couple of long bus rides, I may in fact arrive in Montpellier before her on Friday, if only by a few hours.
As for today, I had one focus: get to my albergue with hurting myself. I did that. I have roughly six miles left to walk tomorrow, which should be relatively easy, assuming the present downpour ends before morning.
