Kathryn and I are on the move again after two great nights in Lausanne.
Since hotels are so expensive in Switzerland anyway, we splurged a bit on something on the nicer side. When we checked in, they proposed a modest upgrade to a junior suite with a lake view. We slept well for two nights.
The reason we stopped in Lausanne was to see my former French instructor with his girlfriend and daughter. A month ago, they also added a newborn son to the mix. When we arrived at their house for dinner, we also learned they had upgraded to husband and wife late last year.
We had drinks, during which Kathryn enjoyed a considerable amount of cuddle time with the newborn. After the children had been fed and tucked in for the night, we had a lovely dinner of several courses, a mix of dishes from the different culinary traditions of the couple.
We again spent yesterday morning with the newlyweds and their children, going on a gentle hike through vineyards with views of Lake Geneva below.
The daughter, who is a little over two years old and is beginning to talk, is speaking in a mix of her mother’s native German and her father’s native French, and is just beginning to understand that they’re two different languages. Nonetheless, we heard her say things like “oui-ja” for “yes”, combining her father’s oui with her mother’s ja.
After leaving our friends, Kathryn and I enjoyed a stroll around the old city of Lausanne, followed by more strolling along the lakeshore near our hotel. Having been well fed over the last several days, we opted for a simple, single-course dinner at a Thai restaurant near the hotel, before turning in relatively early in anticipation of a long day of travel today.
